- very aggressive tuber root system

- after one year each tuber can create up
  to 2000 plants and up to 6000 more
  tubers

- can grow from 6" to 2.5' tall

- control of this weed is very difficult

 

Barnyard Grass
Echinochloa crus-galli

- warm season annual 

- fibrous root system

- can grow 1'-5' tall

- plant matures in 60 days and can
  produce up to 40.000   seeds

- reacts to both pre and post emergents

Bindweed
Convolvulus arvensis

- warm season annual 

- spreads by a deep network of roots and
  rhizomes and  seeds...very invasive

- one plant can produce 500 seeds that
  are viable for up to 50 years

- very difficult to control once started

- may react to pre emergents if started
  early enough

Black Medic
Medicago lupulina

- Cool season annual

- Reproduces by seed

- Shallow rooted with slender stems
  spreading 12"- 24"

- occurs in a wide variety of lawn and
  soil conditions

- has bright yellow flowers in clusters
  of up to 50 flowers

- reacts to both pre and post emergents

Crabgrass

- Warm season annual

- Mat forming

- Height to 3'

- Leaves are 1/4" to 1/2" wide and 2"- 6"
  long

- Crabgrass can be found in moist, warm
  soils where  lawns are thin or mowed too
  short
.

Dandelion
Taraxicum officinale

- cool season perennial

- reproduces by seeds and root pieces

- has a long sturdy taproot

- the flowers are yellow and up to 2" in
  diameter on up to  20" long stems 

- the flowers ripen to become puffballs
  of seeds from Spring until Fall

- reacts to some but not all
  pre-emergents and most post
  emergents

Henbit
Lamium amplexicaule

- Cool season annual

- reproduces by seeds and rooting stems

- stems droop then turn upright to 16"
  tall and may root  where they touch the
  ground

- grows in many different soil types

- reacts to both pre and post emergents

- has a taproot to 18"

- plant is prostrate and mat forming

- reproduces by seed

- found mostly in heavy compacted soils

- reacts to pre and post emergents

- each plant is capable of producing
  thousands of seeds

- occurs in wet compacted soils in cooler
  temperatures

- lacks tolerance to environ extremes
